Breathing Life Back Into Our Cities

BreatheLife is a campaign from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CACC) focused on mobilizing populations to reduce air pollution in the name of public health. The campaign’s website features tools for comparing the air quality of your region to the WHO standards, as well as clean air solutions that you can implement to play a role in reducing pollution in your city.

Some of these ideas that the project promotes are sustainable mobility in cities, increased alternative energy usage and health care. BreatheLife incorporates municipalities, individuals, and the health care sector into their strategies for tackling air pollution. Cities are able to join the consortium through which the organization shares sustainable ideas.

These ideas will be crucial in the coming future, as urbanization and migration push the populations of cities higher, along with the pollution levels. The WHO reports that over 6.5 million preventable deaths are attributed to air pollution each year. BreatheLife intends to make the world aware of these dangers, and it hopes to inspire change in society so that we can begin to overcome sickness and death caused by air pollution.
