Thinking Fadura [Spain]

In a Nutshell:

Thinking Fadura provides the general public with free access to a natural green space area in Getxo, located on the Estuary of Bilbao in the province of Biscay in the autonomous community of the Basque Country in northern Spain. The green space contains sporting facilities, natural park areas, a river and a walking path. The Municipality of Getxo has involved residents from lower to higher income groups in the design of the park in order to explore the best way to engage the local population in physical and social activities. INHERIT examines how green spaces are used and what impact the green space can have on health and well-being in low-income groups. Moreover, the study seeks to estimate the value of the path relative to the rate of use (the proportion of population using the path and frequency of use).

Health-Equity-Environment:

Thinking Fadura improves physical and mental health by providing a geographic space for physical activities and social interaction, involving low-income groups (health equity) by offering free access to a park and recreational area that was formerly open to paying members of a sports club. Thinking Fadura aims to restore and improve the natural areas along the river in Getxo thus enhancing the environment.
