| Deglavas street Landfill | |
| Brief Description | The goal of the project is to carry out improvement works in the 19,3 ha large area with the red boundaries of A. Deglava Street, providing cleaning of the waste contaminated territory according to the requirements of regulatory enactments, in order to reduce the negative impact of waste on the environment and human health, to stop further contamination of groundwater and to ensure the integration of waste contaminated territory into the surrounding landscape by improving the territory in the city of Riga and improving the inhabitants’ living environment quality. More than 800,000 m3 of waste was transported from the landfill. This waste was compressed and made into the 36-m-tall mountain. Practice impacts on people’s health by reducing the negative impact of waste on the environment and human health and by stopping further contamination of groundwater. Practice provides possibility to live more active and improve health by walking or skiing in long-distance skiing track in winter. |

| INHERIT Perspective | The project has been chosen because it covers several: degraded territory sanitation and healthy lifestyle promotion. The project has set up a recreation place for residents with opportunities to be physically active in the place where once a Landfill was. As a result, the project not only cleaned up the environment, improved the surrounding physical environment, but also provided opportunities for people to relax in a safe surrounding. It should be noted that the place where the construction of the park was done, before was characterized as an environment without parks or the possibilities for people to do sports in the open air in a safe environment. |
